The Concept!

The plan is to drive around America in an RV visiting as many cool exciting places and experiencing as much of the culture as possible in 6 weeks.
It would be nice to do it without getting lost!...Glenn
It would also be great if we could do it without a backseat driver!...Kate
... and if we could do it without killing each other or our children it would be even better.

Georgia on my mind...

So today we cruised into Georgia. It seems each state gets better as we go along. Everything that was charming about the deep south is even better in Georgia, we loved Alanta's tree lined streets and incredible architecture, plus the big city feel with lots of jazz clubs and cool places to eat and drink, very hip and happening but still classy with the expected old world southern charm.

Along the road we decided to follow a sign to a ghost town and abandoned gold mine - well, things are never as they seem when you follow signs from the interstate (we were burnt by the Ancient Indian Ruins sign) but we figured what the hell. Best decision! We found this tiny little ghost town built entirely by the Mom and Pop who were sitting on their balcony in their rocking chairs when we arrived. Their season doesn't start until May but they kindly let us come in anyway to their personal theme park and we had a ball. Will declared "I wish I could live here".

It had everything - gators in a pond, the biggest turkey you've ever seen in the aviary, haunted buildings, a train that ran around the property, gold mining; it was incredible and we had it all to ourselves for several hours. The owners turned everything on and scared the 'daylight savings' (Will) out of us all. The kids were all "this won't be scary, this is nothing" when we entered the haunted house but were soon screaming like girls and clinging to their father. My camera managed to light up the pitch black room for a split second to get a photo of them freaking out.

The park is on 5 acres in the middle of dense forest and they have regular events with 60 actors all playing different ghosts and they get hundreds of busloads of people who come to be scared witless at night in this really spooky location - it is very Blair Witch Project like bushland, eery. Halloween is apparently a huge deal. We just couldn't get over the amount of work they must have done in the five years since they bought a bush block with nothing on it.

Tonight we are staying just north of Atlanta and tomorrow we set off through Kentucky and Tennessee to the Smoky Mountains before heading to Virginia for a Nascar meet (Glenn's bucket list). We will stay off the freeways for the next few days and enjoy what is apparently spectacular countryside plus I'm still hankering for some pumpkin pie in a dodgy diner on some forgotten old highway so that is on the list in the next few days as we get off the grid.

Life in the RV is settling into a battle rythym, it's actually nice to not have the worries of running a house and juggling work and kids and other commitments, I'm sure we will all be arriving home well rested.

Stay tuned for more great adventures in the coming days.

The boys FREAKING out in the pitch black haunted house!
Reminded me of someone....

They say a girl's gotta kiss a few frogs....

Pop built the whole village by hand out of local cedar. Incredible!

Read the fine print at the bottom!

Sifting for gold....but the running water proved too much for Will...
...so he started floating things down it and over the edge and into the creek. Those of you who know his fascination with a) water and b) motion will know he was in heaven.
