So in a bold/stupid move we decided to drive our 31 foot 8.5 tonne sled into down town Jersey. There were some tense moments with bridges we were too big for but Glenn pulled it off in style. If he ever gets tired of his day job he could always become a truckie! This is the view as we drove in....
We arrived at our RV Park, the Liberty Marina RV Park, and check out the view:
We knew it was a classy joint when we saw the neighbour's ride...
It was a great spot, so easy to get to and from the city and just amazing what prime real estate it was for $75 a night!
Here's the boys at one of many memorials at the site of 9/11.
And down town New York on our way to the subway to head to our first Mets game in Flushing, Queens. I swear the entire population of Canberra was at that game. It was INCREDIBLE how many people there were. We hadn't pre-bought tickets so we ended up with cheap standing room tickets but my ever resourceful husband managed to sort our prime seats for us!
What you can't see is the tiers above us!
Will enjoying the weather during innings 7-9. Bless.
We watched the Atlanta Braves get beaten by the New York Mets, then checked to see our extremities were still attached (we certainly couldn't feel them by the end of 9 innings) and headed back on the train to Manhattan to take the boys for a special treat....cocktails at The View lounge on the 48th floor of the Marriott - the restaurant from Sleepless in Seattle. After Glenn got over the shock of paying $30 for two fancy fruit juices and $60 for a $10 bottle of wine in the rotating restaurant we sat back and enjoyed the view. The boys enjoyed the going round and round part. A lot. In fact they were asked by the manager not to enjoy it quite so much by sitting down and not moving because they were making the other guests dizzy. Possibly cocktail bar was a bridge too far at 9 and 11?
By the time we left it was dark and time for dinner so when a random Irish copper stopped to chat (well by chat I mean he was telling our kids off for climbing up on these big concrete bollards and jumping off screaming "Gerronimo" while Glenn and I tried to decide where to go for dinner) we hit him up for a great local restaurant the tourists don't know about. And what a gem he sent us to in Hell's Kitchen. It was amazing! Italian food like I've never had an incredible ambience. It was jammed into a three story walk up and it was oozing with character. SO glad we got to experience the real New York after three days of tourist spots.
It was fitting end to our time in Manhattan, we had a ball but the open road was calling...
